CV Format in Pakistan: Sections, Examples and Free Templates

By numan · Published 2026-10-25 · Updated 2026-10-26

The CV format in Pakistan that recruiters and job portals can read: section order, which personal details to leave out, a female CV format and how to pick a template.

The best CV format in Pakistan is simple. Put your contact details at the top, then a short summary, then experience and education with the newest first, then skills. Keep it to one or two pages. Use a plain single-column layout that a recruiter can read in a few seconds and a job portal can read without errors.

This guide is for anyone applying for a job inside Pakistan: fresh graduates, people changing jobs, and women returning to work. It covers the section order, which personal details to leave out, a female CV format, and how to pick a template. It also links to separate guides for bank and government jobs, because those have their own rules.

CV Format in Pakistan at a Glance

  • Order: Contact details → Summary → Experience → Education → Skills → Certifications
  • Length: One page for fresh graduates. Two pages at most for experienced candidates
  • Font: Arial, Calibri or similar, size 10.5–12 for body text
  • Layout: Single column. No tables, text boxes or icons for important details
  • Photo: Only if the advertisement asks for one
  • File: PDF, unless the advertisement asks for Word
  • File name: Your name and the role, e.g. Ayesha-Khan-Accounts-Officer-CV.pdf

Fresh graduates can move Education above Experience, because the degree is their strongest point. Everyone else should lead with experience.

Pakistani CV Style: What to Keep and What to Drop

Older Pakistani CVs often start with a "Personal Information" block: father's name, CNIC number, date of birth, religion, marital status, domicile and a passport photo. Many people still copy this from a template they got years ago.

A private-sector employer doesn't need any of this to shortlist you. It takes up the most valuable space on page one, and it puts your CNIC number on a document that gets forwarded around WhatsApp groups and email chains.

Here is a practical rule:

  • Keep: full name (spelled as on your CNIC), city, phone number, professional email, LinkedIn URL.
  • Drop for private-sector jobs: father's name, CNIC number, date of birth, religion, marital status, full home address.
  • Add only when asked: photo, domicile, CNIC, father's name, date of birth.

Government and many public-sector jobs are different. Their application forms usually ask for father's name, CNIC, date of birth, domicile and a photo, and some ask you to attach a CV alongside the form. In that case, fill in the form exactly and keep the CV itself clean. Our CV guide for government jobs (FPSC, PPSC, NTS) explains where the form ends and the CV begins.

How to Write Each Section of Your CV

Contact Details

Write your name exactly as it appears on your CNIC. Employers verify identity later, and a different spelling causes avoidable questions. Add your city, not your full address. Use an email based on your name, not a nickname from school.

Professional Summary

Three or four lines at the top that say who you are, what you are good at, and what job you want. Name the role. "Seeking a challenging position in a reputable organisation" tells the reader nothing, and almost every CV in the pile says it.

Work Experience

List jobs from newest to oldest. For each one, write the job title, the company, the city and the dates (month and year). Under it, add two to five bullet points about what you did and what changed because of it. Use numbers where you can, but only numbers you can defend in an interview.

Education

Start with your highest qualification. Write the degree name as it appears on your transcript, the university, the year and your CGPA or percentage. For intermediate and matric, one line each is enough: FSc Pre-Engineering, board name, year, marks. Experienced candidates can drop matric altogether.

Skills

Split skills into two short lists: technical skills (MS Excel, Tally, AutoCAD, Python, SAP, whatever the job uses) and soft skills you can show evidence for. Copy the exact skill names from the job advertisement where they are true for you. Recruiters and portals search for those words.

Certifications, Languages and References

Add certifications that matter for the job, with the year. List languages if they are relevant: English, Urdu and any regional language. For references, "Available on request" is enough. You don't need to list your referees' phone numbers on the CV.

Before and After: CV Lines That Get Read

These are illustrative examples. Write your own using your real work.

Sales:

  • Before: "Responsible for sales in the area."
  • After: "Managed 45 retail accounts in Gulberg and Model Town; grew monthly orders from 300 to 420 cartons in one year."

Accounts:

  • Before: "Did bank reconciliation and other accounts work."
  • After: "Prepared monthly bank reconciliations for four accounts and cleared a six-month backlog of unmatched entries."

Teaching:

  • Before: "Taught students of different classes."
  • After: "Taught Mathematics to Grades 6–8 (three sections, about 100 students) and prepared the department's term exam papers."

Each "after" line says what the task was, how big it was and what changed.

CV Format in Pakistan for Fresh Graduates

With little work experience, put Education right after your summary. Then add internships, your final year project, and any part-time work, tutoring or volunteering. Write them the same way you would write a job: what you did and what came out of it.

Keep the CV to one page. A fresh graduate CV that runs to two pages is usually padded with hobbies, a long objective and a personal details block. We cover this in detail in how to write a CV with no experience.

Female CV Format in Pakistan

There is no separate CV format for women. The same order, length and layout apply. But women in Pakistan often get advice to add details that men don't, and some of it works against them.

  • Marital status and husband's name: leave them off unless the advertisement or form asks. They have nothing to do with whether you can do the job.
  • Photo: same rule as everyone. Add one only if the advertisement asks. If you do, use a plain, professional photo.
  • Address: write your city only. You don't need to share your home address with every company you apply to.
  • Phone and email: use a number and email you are comfortable sharing with employers you haven't met yet.
  • Career break: if you stepped away from work, say so in one line with the dates, e.g. "Career break for family responsibilities, 2021–2024". Then list anything you did in that time: a course, freelance work, tutoring. An honest one-line explanation is better than a gap the interviewer has to ask about.
  • Returning to work: put a strong summary at the top that names the role you want now, so the reader sees your direction before they see the dates.

CV Format by Job Type

The format above works for most private-sector jobs in Pakistan. Some sectors expect a little more:

  • Bank jobs: banks check details closely and want soft skills alongside education. See the CV format for bank jobs in Pakistan (HBL, UBL, MCB).
  • Government jobs: the application form carries most of the weight. Follow the form first, then attach a clean CV if asked. See the government jobs guide linked above.
  • Jobs through Rozee.pk and LinkedIn: recruiters search a database first and open your CV second, so your job title and skills need to match what they search for. See how Pakistani recruiters screen CVs on Rozee.pk and LinkedIn.
  • Gulf jobs: a Gulf resume drops most Pakistani personal details and focuses on results. That needs its own format, not a copy of your local CV.

CV Templates for Pakistan Jobs

Search for "CV template Pakistan" and you will find hundreds of colourful Word files with two columns, skill bars and a big photo at the top. They look good as a picture. They often break when a job portal reads them: text in side columns gets jumbled, skill bars carry no information, and contact details inside a header can disappear.

A good template for Pakistani jobs has:

  • one column, read top to bottom
  • standard fonts and clear headings ("Experience", "Education", "Skills")
  • contact details in the main body, not in a header or text box
  • enough white space that a recruiter can scan it in a few seconds
  • no skill bars, rating stars or icons in place of words

Which template for which job: banks, government departments and most corporate roles suit a plain, formal template. Private companies, startups and IT roles accept a little more design, as long as it stays single-column.

The free CV builder on airesume.pk has six single-column templates, including Minimal and Classic for formal applications. You can switch templates without retyping anything, and download a PDF with no watermark.

Common CV Mistakes in Pakistan

  • Starting with a personal details block that pushes your experience to page two
  • A generic objective ("seeking a challenging position…") instead of a real summary
  • "Responsible for…" bullets that list duties and say nothing about results
  • Spelling mistakes in the company name or your own degree title
  • Dates that don't match your experience letters
  • Sending one CV for every job without changing the summary or skills
  • Two-column templates, tables and text boxes that portals can't read
  • A file called CV.pdf or New Document (3).docx

Check Your CV Before You Apply

Many employers in Pakistan now collect CVs through online portals instead of by hand. A CV that looks fine to you can lose its contact details or skills when software reads it. Run it through a free ATS check, fix what it flags, and compare your skills list against the job advertisement one last time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best CV format in Pakistan? A reverse-chronological format: contact details, summary, experience, education and skills, with the newest items first. Keep it to one or two pages in a single-column layout.

Should I add my father's name and CNIC to my CV? Not for most private-sector jobs. Add them only if the advertisement or application form asks. Government application forms usually ask for them on the form itself.

Should I put a photo on my CV in Pakistan? Only if the advertisement asks for one. Otherwise a CV without a photo is normal and keeps the focus on your experience.

Is there a different CV format for females in Pakistan? No. Use the same format. Leave out marital status, husband's name and your home address unless asked, and explain any career break in one honest line.

Should my CV be one page or two? One page for fresh graduates and early-career candidates. Two pages at most for experienced candidates. Cut old or unrelated details before you shrink the font.

Should I send my CV in Word or PDF? PDF, unless the advertisement asks for Word. A PDF keeps your layout the same on every phone and computer.

Final Thoughts

A good CV format in Pakistan is plain and accurate, and it puts your best work on page one. Drop the old personal details block unless a form asks for it, write results instead of duties, and use a single-column template that portals can read. When you are ready, build your CV in the free builder, then test it with the free ATS score checker before you apply.
